The Mother Theresa Conundrum Continues -

In the interest of flogging to death the issues of the possibility of sainthood for Mother Theresa, Pavan’s Press is pleased to present more of Yashomatinandan’s Krishna conscious insight. So let’s put our hands together for the real scoop on saintliness, beatitude and final destination of the “Saint of Calcutta” from a devotee who really knows the art of an old-fashioned Krishna conscious tirade. –Ed.

Point of View
Pavan’s Press welcomes Vaishnavi writer Abhaya Mudra Dasi of Bulgaria, who herewith kindly gives us a lady devotee’s view on the material and spiritual worlds, and on the role of female energy, ultimately controlled by Shrimati Radharani Ji, here and hereafter here and hereafter.A KRISHNA CONSCIOUS PERSPECTIVE
ON NATURE AND FEMALE ENERGY

by Abhaya Mudra Dasi

Feminine Energy: Material and Spiritual

It is difficult to understand the secrets of nature because they are carefully guarded by the supreme woman of this Universe, Durga, the shadow of Shrimati Radharani. By understanding the nature of the supreme female within this jagat, or material universe, we living entities, or jivatmas, may learn to pay more respect to the internal Nature of Krishna. This material world with its three modes of energy representing different moods of the goddess Durga is nothing more than the chhaya shakti, or “shadow energy” of the Supreme Goddess, Shrimati Radharani, the eternal consort of Shri Krishna. Hence, the goddess of this material world is called Maya Devi, the “controller of that which is not.” Quite simply, maya is illusion, and we are all tied up in material nature due to one or another material illusion revolving in an endless cycle based upon our past karma.
Ironically, it is the form of the female that keeps all living entities bound here in this samsara, and it is the Supreme Female Who can release the soul shackled by illusory desires, also. That is why in Vrindavana, the devotees pray unto Shrimati Radharani for Shri Krishna’s grace. Read the rest of this post »

Mother Theresy Conundrum (Part Three) – by Patita Pavana das

In the final analysis, there is no room at all for novel interpretations in the simplicity of Mahaprabhu’s Ultimate Command:

harer nama hare nama hare nama eva kevalam
kalau nasty’eva nasty’eva nasty’eva gatir anythah

In spite of the fact that Shrila Prabhupada left us sixty volumes of “law books,” nonetheless there are found many mental speculators who enjoy second guessing Shrila Prabhupada’s one and only vani. With great audacity they have tried in vain to put words into his mouth, or foolishly try to change his divine teachings for something “New Age-ier.” Sometimes, Godbrothers, it is just better to shut our big collective mouth and open our eyes to his books once again. Shake off the dust, and you’ll see that it’s right there in black and white. Only a fool would argue about the content of Prabhupada’s books to avoid reading them. Honestly, these harsh words are meant more for me than thou, so forgive the sanctimoniousness, even though this bit of counsel is something to think about. Like spending fifteen minutes every day studying Prabhupada’s books simply because there is no fountain as sweet, eternally fresh or beneficial for the soul. Read the rest of this post »

Part Two: The Mother Theresa Conundrum – by Patita Pavana das

A Religion Without Philosophical Substance Cannot Hold a Religious Congregation

Mother Theresa, to be sure, could have done a better job of telling the world about the place she called home for decades. But that wouldn’t have served the Church’s interest in showcasing their “concern” for those afflicted with poverty, ignorance and disease. Criticisms of spiritual institutions are written with a heavy heart, but for how long must the world remain silent when a religion is misled into hell by unqualified leaders? The Mother Theresa Conundrum (Part One) – by Patita Pavana das

Saint Means “Sant”

All this recent banter about the late Mother Theresa has got me asking a few questions. Like, why did the respected Catholic nun only find poverty, ignorance and disease in Calcutta and not elsewhere? These miserable conditions are concomitant factors of material existence. Daily I find these Three Sisters of Bad Karma loitering outside my very own door here in San Francisco. Locked into the continually revolving wheel divided into eight daily cycles, no soul here in mrityu-loka, or world of birth and death, is free from suchlike results caused by past actions committed with selfish motives, whether in goodness, passion or ignorance.

In fact, the region of the world that includes Calcutta is in possession of some of the richest culture upon the face of the Earth. Any true saint would have spent more effort dispensing the great spiritual contributions of that sacred Bangla-bhumi and Gauda Desh, rather than pandering to the bodily needs of unfortunates for the sake of enhancement of one’s own flickering reputation, name, fame, etc. For the record, or for those who don’t know, here are a few of Calcutta and its vicinity’s highlights, each of which could easily be discussed in volumes: Read the rest of this post »

Editor’s Editorial (Who Else Would Write An Editorial, Prabhu?):

Dressing Up Guru …and the Dangers of Premature Acceptance of the Symbols of a Paramhamsa

Part One:
Hallowe’en Gurus

Numerous untoward disasters have befallen many of those who have prematurely adopted the very symbols which should merit the wearer the highest platform of worship. These sacred emblems such as keshri-ranga-vasa (holy saffron cloth), tri-danda (penitent staff), asana (sacred seat of Vyasa) and symbols of worship like the chamara fan, pushpa-mala (flower garland, etc.) should be reserved for those who have achieved the highest state of Krishna consciousness. Worship of an exalted self-realized sage is wonderfully beneficial, but worship of an ordinary man leads to but more entanglement.

All Glory To Shri Guru And Gauranga
Issue Four

Pavan’s Press is an in-house Gaudiya Vaishnava ”journal of interest” for the ever-growing world-wide family of Krishna’s devotees, initiated or not. Or we may define “initiation” as a heartfelt yearning to serve Shrila Prabhupada out of selfless devotion. He who feels this way towards Shrila Prabhupada is initiated, otherwise he is not. Having tried to take a stumbling step in the direction of my Guru Maharaja, I am at least a little aware of how many steps he is willing to take for us. To such as myself, my Godbrothers and Godsisters, is Pavan’s Press dedicated.

Shrila Prabhupada especially stressed the importance of Vaishnava association in this modern world if we are to hope for the liberation of Lord Krishna’s lotus feet. To this end and towards the fulfillment of Guru Maharaja’s divine wish, it is important that this internet be used for preaching Krishna consciousness among our fellow devotees and members of ISKCON.

DATE: 18 November 2007, corresponding to Kartika Shukla Ashthami, Shrila Prabhupada-Jayanti Kala 111.

Hari Bol Prabhus,

Please accept my humble obeisances at your lotus feet, including all ten toes, the instep, heel, sole, dust particles immediately surrounding said lotus feet, etc.

All glories to our spiritual master His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who appeared in 1896 in Calcutta to carry the message of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu around the world.

You are receiving this because we feel that you are an intimate member of the family of Shrila Prabhupada’s family. Pavan’s Press is only for ISKCON devotees and friends and those who by Shri Krishna’s divine grace and their own past live’s good deeds are drawn to the eternal shelter of Shrila Prabhupada’s lotus feet. According to the dictates of Vaishnava etiquette, discussions of the glories of Vraja Shri Krishna and His devotees is a topic meant for intimate devotees of the Lord. So if you do not wish to receive any future issues of Pavan’s Press for any reason, kindly inform me.

We are convinced that eternal bliss through service to Shri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, can be found through following the instructions and executing the command of His Divine Grace Abhaya Charanaravindam Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Let others drink from whatever well or fountain they choose, but we will remain in the shower of nectar found at the feet of our Guru Maharaja, the Founder-Acharya of the Hare Krishna Movement in the Western world. As contented (?) householder men are often heard to say, “When you’ve got the perfect thing, why look elsewhere.” Similarly, when your spiritual master is the perfected sage who single-handedly carried the torch of Gaudiya Vaishnavism around the world as the acharya of the holy name, is there any need to look elsewhere?

This issue number Four of Pavan’s Press contains:

  • Shri Chanakya Niti-shastra with Commentary by the Ed., 1.3 & 1.4
  • Editorial: Trick or Treat: Hallowe’en Gurus
  • Perspective: Mother Theresa: “Saint Means Sant”
  • A Reader Speaks Out: In “Nature” Abhaya Mudra devi dasi shares her realizations of “Feminine Energy: Transcendental and Apparent”
  • The Krishna Conscious Tirades of Yashomatinandan Das of Ahmedabad
  • Vaishnava Fiction at its Worst

Rasanandadas Prabhu of Hyderabad, A.P. discusses some of the horrible and strange results that has followed in the wake of Rahu’s latest mischief. Regarding the lunar eclipse of 27 Aug., Shriman Rasanandadas writes:

I’m sure it will interest you to note that two days ago in Hyderabad (where I reside) there were two simultaneous bomb blasts in the city that killed 40+ persons and injured dozens more. See Deccan Chronicle, “36 Killed in Twin Blasts”: Half an hour or so before the explosions, one family left the site where one was to occur, a laser show place, and went to a restaurant – the very site of the other blast. The entire family was killed. (See the next day’s edition of the above newspaper.) Read the rest of this post »
